5 Home Remedies For Episcleritis

Share

Episcleritis occurs when the episclera which is a thin layer of tissue that sits between the white of the eye and the transparent layer that covers the eye and known as conjunctiva becomes irritated and inflamed. This condition does not affect the vision but the eyes become watery, sore and tender and often there is a dull ache or burning sensation in the eyes. The eyes also become sensitive to light and a red and bloodshot area appears in the white of the eye.

Though the exact cause of this condition is unknown, it is assumed that certain underlying health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus, inflammatory bowel disease and bacterial and viral infections like shingles, Lyme disease and syphilis can be responsible for it. Sometimes one or more small bumps or raised areas can also occur on the white of the eye and these lumps can move on the surface of the eyeball.
