A flaky scalp means a scratching head, embarrassment in front of people and low self esteem due to that constant tickling on the top of the head.

OTC shampoos help to some extent in controlling flaky scalp but the problem with these chemical based products is that the moment you stop using them, the flakes begin to reappear while on the other hand these simple home remedies not only help you get rid of flaky scalp some of them deep condition your hair as well as a bonus.

Home Remedies For Flaky Scalp

Apple Cider Vinegar

Vinegar has been known as a perfect homemade conditioner but few people know that apple cider vinegar is a great remedy for flaky scalp also. It helps in dislodging the flakes and restore the Ph level of your scalp.

Take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and mix it with a cup of plain water. Massage this mixture on your head and leave for an hour. Wash off with shampoo. Your hair will look lustrous and all the itching will be gone.

Baking Soda

Baking soda not only helps in relieving acidity and pain from stomach it also helps in removing the flakes from your scalp which erode your confidence fast. Take a table spoon of baking soda and massage on the wet scalp. Wait for an hour and then wash off with warm water and shampoo. You can condition your hair as usual. Baking soda also helps in removing product build up from your scalp and hair.

Common Salt

On your wet scalp, massage some common salt gently. Leave for 20 minutes and then wash off with shampoo. Common salt sticks to the flakes and its abrasive texture helps in dislodging the deep set flakes from your scalp.Be gentle while scrubbing your scalp. Massage hair oil before using salt as it can dry up your hair.

Sour Yogurt

Take a bowl of yogurt and add a tea spoon of salt into it. Leave it overnight outside the fridge. In the morning, squeeze a lemon and massage on your scalp. Leave for 20 minutes and wash off with mild shampoo. You will find flakes free scalp and super soft hair.

Fenugreek Seeds Paste

Take a cup of fenugreek seeds and soak them overnight in the water. In the morning, grind them to a fine paste. Massage this paste on the scalp and leave for 20 minutes.Wash off with shampoo. Applying this paste on dry scalp will not dry hair further. You can condition your hair as usual.

Green Tea

Brew a cup of green tea and let it cool for some time. Squeeze a lemon and pour on your scalp. Keep the tea on your head for 20 minutes and then wash off with some gentle shampoo. Antioxidants in green tea help in dislodging flakes.

If these home based remedies do not help significantly then you must check with your dermatologist because sometimes flaky skin is caused by infection and allergic reactions too.
