5 Home Remedies For Hot Flashes

After menopause the body undergoes certain hormonal changes. Levels of the hormone estrogen become low in the body. These changes cause hot flashes, a very common symptom faced by women. Sudden and intense waves of heat are known as hot flashes.These waves of heat surge over the body making you feel suffocatingly hot.

You feel as if your whole body has caught fire and you sweat profusely. The desire to remove all the clothing to find coolness and relief becomes predominant.These flashes can be very brief, lasting for a couple of minutes or they can last for as long as an hour. They can occur frequently, at any time or they can occur on a regular basis. They are extremely distressing and can make you miserable. Here are a few tips to deal with hot flashes.

Tips To Deal With Hot Flashes

Exercise

Exercise daily, for at least thirty minutes. Brisk walking is the best exercise. Exercise increases the body stamina tones up the muscles and relieves stress. It stimulates various chemicals in the brain which make you feel relaxed and happy. Exercise plays a major role in relieving hot flashes.

Soy

Soy is a very healthy food full of nourishing nutrients. It contains unsaturated fats which are cholesterol free, proteins, vitamin B, minerals like iron, zinc, potassium and calcium and fibre.It contains isoflavones called phytoestrogens which are plant based estrogens. Drink soy milk twice a day. You can also have soy yogurt. Include soy food like tofu, in your diet and have at least two servings.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds are very commonly used in various cuisines. In India sesame seeds are extensively consumed in the form of laddoos. Sesame seeds are rich in calcium, copper and fibre. They contain plant based estrogen which is very good for hot flashes. Soak one tablespoon of sesame seeds in half a cup of water overnight. In the morning grind the seeds with the soaked water, in a grinder. Drink it before your morning tea.

Olive Oil

Olive oil has many benefits. It is full of antioxidants like vitamin E and has estrogenic effects. Olive oil is only oil that can be taken as it is. Take four teaspoons of olive oil.

Add a pinch of pepper and salt to it. Soak pieces of bread in it and eat. Eat once daily. Soak and boil half a cup of chickpeas. Grind to a paste. Add three to four teaspoons of olive oil, the juice of half a lemon and some salt and pepper. Mix well. You can eat this paste either plain ,or spread it on a cracker and eat. Substitute olive oil in all your cooking.

Sage Tea

Sage is a wonderful herb full of healing properties. It is antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. It purifies the blood. It is rich in volatile oils and flavonoids. It works as a tonic and has camphor like aroma and relaxes spasms. Take six to eight leaves of sage and boil in water for three minutes. Strain and add two or three drops of lemon and sugar. Drink this tea at least twice a day to relieve hot flashes.
