5 Home Remedies For Neuralgia

Share

Neuralgia in simple words is nerve pain. When any nerve of the body gets damaged, one experiences sharp, prickling and excruciating pain in that region and this pain travels the whole path till the point where the nerve is connected. The face and the neck regions are the most commonly affected body parts. Apart from sharp pain, one also feels numbness and other peculiar sensations.

The nerves which are responsible for sensations like touch, temperature and pressure get damaged. In neuralgia one experiences a sudden lightning and short lived pain for two to three minutes upon doing normal activities like eating, giving facial expressions or conversing. Even touching the face can trigger pain. Though the pain is of a short duration, it is the worst kind of pain one can ever experience in a lifetime.  Since there is a constant headache and dental pain neuralgia is often mistaken for migraine or dental problems. Other parts like the ears, neck and back, can also get affected by the pain. Main causes of neuralgia are old age, trauma, viral infections, and red painful rashes as in herpes. However there are no specific causes of neuralgia.

Peppermint oil is very good for relieving nerve pain and headaches. It has immense anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and antiviral properties which are beneficial for the body in many ways.

Take some peppermint oil and massage the painful area with it for five to ten minutes. Peppermint oil will instantly soothe the irritated nerve and reduce the pain considerably.

Celery
