5 Home Remedies For Runny Nose

Share

Runny nose also known as rhinorrhea is a common symptom of the common cold and influenza. The mucous membrane lining situated inside the nose becomes irritated and inflamed and causes nasal discharges. Allergies, sinusitis, severe brain and head injuries can also cause a runny nose. Its distinct characteristics are itching, sneezing and continuous discharge of mucous. The skin around the nose becomes red, rough and chapped due to constant blowing and wiping.

If the runny nose is due to viral and bacterial infections, the mucous discharged is green or yellow in color because of the presence of dead organisms in it. If it is caused by allergic reactions to dust, smoke, tree pollen, perfumes and sprays the mucous is clear and watery.A runny nose also occurs if a person’s oxygen level on the body cell drops below normal. Decongestants and nasal sprays should not be used because after a certain time they cause more harm and aggravate  the problem.
