5 Home Remedies For Throat Pain

Throat pain is caused by the inflammation of the mucous membranes present in the respiratory airways. These membranes become dry and rough causing a continuous raw and scratchy feeling. Swallowing becomes a difficult task due to the pain and swelling and there is much discomfort. Throat pain is generally caused by the common cold, flue and viral infections.

Sometimes acid reflux, allergies, over straining of the vocal chords pollution and cigarette smoke can also cause sore throat. Often soreness in the throat heralds the onset of the cold or flu and disappears after a few days .If treated properly with simple home remedies; the symptoms will mitigate quickly and relieve the pain and soreness and effect complete recovery.

Home Remedies For Throat Pain

Ginger

Ginger is very effective in soothing the pain and in eliminating the swelling. Grate a big piece of fresh ginger and boil it in one and a half cups of water. Boil till the water is reduced to one cup in quantity. Strain and add two teaspoons of honey. Drink it hot at least three times daily. Ginger abounds in anti-inflammatory and healing properties which will soon settle the inflamed mucous membranes and bring about a quick recovery.

Black Pepper And Honey

Black pepper is anti-inflammatory and it is also a very good source of antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin A. Crush eight peppercorns and add them to a cup of boiling water. Boil for three minutes.

Strain and add three teaspoons of honey. Sip this hot tea and allow the liquid to run down your throat slowly. The honey will rehydrate and soothe the dry mucous membranes and the pepper extract will reduce the swelling and pain. Drink this tea three times a day regularly till the pain is completely gone.

Tulsi

Tulsi is full of therapeutic values and is widely used in curing a number of aliments. It is very effective in relieving the symptoms of a painful throat and speeds up recovery. Break fifteen fresh leaves of tulsi into small pieces and boil them in a cup of water till they get reduced to half. Drink this concoction without straining at least three times a day. Your throat will feel soothed and swallowing will become easier.

Lime Juice

Lime juice is full of vitamin C which is an excellent antioxidant .It also has amazing curative and detoxifying properties which heal the pain and reduce the rawness in the throat. Squeeze the juice of one lime in a glass of warm water. Stir in a pinch of salt and some sugar. Drink this mixture in small amounts, several times a day. The scratchy feeling will be eased and vanish altogether within no time.

Tea

Tea the most common and widely used beverage has many curative properties. The polyphenols found in tea are strong antioxidants which preserve the body’s defenses by preventing cell oxidation. Boil two teaspoons of tea leaves in a glass of water for three minutes. Strain the decoction and gargle with it twice a day. Your throat will not only feel soothed but the pain will also decrease.
