Vomiting is an involuntary bodily response by which unwanted food is ejected from the stomach. Vomiting is accompanied by nausea and retching. Vomiting can occur due to a wide variety of reasons. More often than not, it occurs due to a gastrointestinal upset. It can also occur due to hormonal disturbances and food allergies.
There are a number of natural and simple home remedies that give immediate relief to the person who is suffering from vomiting.
Slowly sip on a cup of fresh fruit juice as soon as you experience the first wave of nausea. Drinking something immediately ensures that something goes into your stomach and you are not left retching at the sink. This technique helps to curb the vomiting sensation.
Take one teaspoon of mint juice, one teaspoon of ginger juice, the juice of 1 lime and one tablespoon of honey.Mix all the ingredients together and have this as soon as you feel the urge to vomit. The juice will subside the sensation. It also reduces the severity of the vomiting sensation.
Good old ginger is said to be an age-old remedy for the treatment of nausea and vomiting. You can make some simple ginger ale at home or suck on a raw piece of ginger with honey. You can also have ginger candy or popsicles. Ginger immediately quells nausea and prevents the person from throwing up. You can also make a mild tea with ginger infused in it.
Cardamom has a very nice fragrance and flavour and quells vomiting especially if it is occurring in response to an offending odour. Crush the seeds of cardamom into a fine powder and have this along with some honey. Have this mixture 2-3 times in a day to get relief from vomiting.
Onion juice can be quite offensive but should be had regularly at intervals of 1-2 hours to prevent very severe bouts of vomiting.
Sucking on a raw piece of lime or lime juice prevents nausea and dehydration. Squeeze the juice of one lime in a chilled glass of water and to it add a pinch of salt, pepper and one teaspoon of water. Slowly sip on this water to get relief from vomiting.
Take a few whiffs of a freshly removed peel of an orange. The smell will immediately curb the vomiting sensation.
If you suffer from nausea and vomiting early in the morning, one technique to prevent this is to have a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar dissolved in honey and water as soon as you get up in the morning.This will prevent you from heaving and retching as soon as you get up.
Rub some rock salt on a small wedge of a lime and keep sucking on this for a few minutes. Do this once every hour. It will definitely subside your vomiting and give you relief.
Boil a cup of rice in some water. Wait for the rice to cook and drain out the residual water. Now sip on this water intermittently. You will immediately find your nausea and vomiting abating and becoming lesser in severity.
Cumin or jeera is an age-old home remedy used for the treatment of vomiting. Grind some roasted cumin to a fine powder.Dissolve one teaspoon of this powder in water and drink up this water. This will ease tummy discomfort that you experience after a bout if intense vomiting.
You are not likely to feel like eating anything if you are experiencing vomiting but it is a good idea to have very small bites of mashed banana. It helps to stop vomiting and diarrhea and also gives energy if you are feeling weak.
You can also add a tablespoon of honey to a glass of warm water and sip on this water throughout the day.
Plain bread is a good home remedy especially if you are suffering from a hangover. Just chew on some raw pieces of bread to prevent vomiting from a hangover.
Vomiting that has been accompanied by acidity or indigestion can be given relief by sipping on cola but make sure you bring the cola to room temperature before sipping on it.
Have gruels, soups and broths if you are vomiting, as they are light on the stomach, give you energy and also provide the body with the necessary vitamins and minerals to help you recover quickly.
Try to avoid dairy as much as possible if you are vomiting. Milk and milk products are not easily digested by the body and hence should be avoided by the person completely.
Vomiting can leave you possibly dehydrated so make sure you keep sipping on water throughout the day, as this will prevent you from feeling dehydrated, weak and listless.
A homemade ORS solution consisting of salt and sugar should be sipped on at frequent intervals.
Cinnamon powder is also a very good remedy for vomiting. You can sprinkle it on your mashed fruit or chew on a piece of raw cinnamon to get immediate relief from vomiting.
You should make a concerted effort to stay on liquid and semi solid diet. Stay away from oily and spicy food completely as this can exacerbate your symptoms and make matters worse.
If you have recovered from vomiting, following the BRAT diet will help your body to come back to normal. This diet primarily consists of bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast. Eating these foods for a few days will make it easy for your digestive processes to come back to normal.
With the help of these simple and natural home remedies, you can cure vomiting without having to see a doctor. Only if your symptoms get worse should you consult a doctor and get treated as per the symptoms experienced.
