How To Cure Ringworm

Share

Ringworm is a superficial skin disease caused by a specialized group of fungi known as dermatophytes which live and breed on the surface of the skin. These fungi feed on keratin which is a protein, found on the skin, nails and hair. The major constituent of the outermost layer of the skin is keratin. When the fungi disturb the layer of keratin, round shaped lesions cover the skin.

The lesions can be dry and scaly or they can be moist and oozing blisters. There are several types of ringworm and are classified according to the skin lesions they produce.  Though the ringworm can appear anywhere on the body, the fungi generally attack the scalp, the skin folds between the toes, nails, beard, groin, and hands and feet. Children and the elderly are more susceptible to this infection and it is contracted by direct skin to skin contact with an infected person.
