5 Ways To Get Rid Of A Stye

Stye

A stye is caused by an infection of the oil glands of the upper or lower eyelid. These glands produce an oily substance which lubricates the eyeball. A tender, painful and red bump occurs at the base of an eyelash or under or inside the eyelid. The glands become clogged and the hair follicle at the base of the eyelash becomes infected. The staphylococcus aureus bacterium which is frequently found on the skin is mainly responsible for styes.

The first sign of a stye is a redness, tenderness and pain in the affected area. The eye too feels irritated and scratchy. Then there is swelling and difficulty in blinking of the eye. The eyes become watery and sensitive to light. Then a painful bump with a yellow center appears. There is usually pus in the bump which continues causing unbearable pain until it is able to drain out. One should never rub the eyes with unclean and unwashed hands to prevent infection.
