5 Ways To Get Rid Of Acne

Share

Acne also known as Acne Vulgaris is a skin disease of the oil glands that are located at the base of the hair follicles. It usually occurs during puberty in both boys and girls. This is the time when the sebaceous glands become active. They get stimulated by the male hormones which are produced by the adrenal glands in both males and females. The skin is full of pores which are connected to the oil glands via follicles. The sebaceous glands produce sebum which is an oily liquid and which carries the dead skin cells to the surface of the skin through the follicles.

A small hair grows out of the skin through the follicle. Acne occurs when these follicles become clogged and an accumulation of oil takes place under the skin. The dead skin cells, sebum and hair clump together to block the follicles. When this plug gets infected with bacteria, it results in swelling. A pimple begins to develop when the plug starts disintegrating. Acne is mainly caused by the rise of androgen levels during adolescence. These hormones enlarge the oil glands under the skin and consequently the glands begin producing more oil which breaks down the cellular walls in the pores, causing bacterial growth.
