5 Ways To Get Rid Of Cold Sores

Share

Cold sores mostly occur on the genitals or in the facial area. They are caused by certain strains of the herpes simplex virus. This infection is very contagious and is easily transmitted through oral sex, kissing or by using the infected persons eating utensils, razors towels and other personal effects. The contagion can be transferred to another person even when there are no weeping blisters or sores.

Once infected with the virus, it does not leave the body but lies in a dormant state and becomes active when there are certain triggers like fever, stress, fatigue and menstruation. There is severe burning and itching before the blisters erupt. The blisters then fill up with fluid and the smaller blisters merge to break open, leaving shallow open and weeping sores which crust over in a few days’ time. During the first outbreak people also experience fever, sore throat, headache, swollen lymph nodes and joint and muscle aches.

5 Tips To Get Rid Of Cold Sores

Ice

As soon as you feel the tingling or burning sensation which heralds the oncoming of the blisters, apply ice to the area for ten to fifteen minutes. The herpes virus needs a warm and moist environment to grow and flourish.

Keep cooling the sore frequently to prevent it from becoming bigger and spreading to other areas of the body. Ice will also hasten the healing process.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has vast healing and curative powers which address a wide range of diseases and disorders. Smear all the blisters with pure coconut oil as often as you can. Coconut oil will not only eradicate the virus and help you get rid of the cold sores but it will also provide immense relief in the itching and burning and will prevent the infection from occurring again. It will also keep the skin well moisturized.

Curd

Eat one cup of homemade curd with every meal. Curd contains huge amounts of healthy bacteria and lysine which is a protein that heals the body rapidly and prevents cold sores.

Curd also increases the strength of the immune system and fortifies it to deal with the virus aptly thus preventing chances of future outbreaks of cold sores. You can also eat cottage cheese and drink two glasses of milk everyday to increase the level of lysine in the body.

Amla

It is important to have a strong and well functioning immune system in order to deal with the herpes virus and prevent it from becoming active. Amla not only detoxifies the body of all the harmful free radicals but also boosts immunity and keep the body free from diseases. Swallow one teaspoon of dried amla powder with a glass of water every morning.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is a very effective remedy for getting rid of cold sores quickly and effectively. Its antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties not only make short work of the infection but also bring tremendous relief in the pain and itching and dry out the weeping sores very quickly.
