How To Get Rid Of Migraines

Share

Migraines are severe headaches that are often preceded by warning signs such as tingling in the arms or legs, flashes of light, blind spots, nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. These headaches can last from several hours to several days. Migraines are a result of enlarged blood vessels and the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that are curled around the blood vessels.

The artery that is located on the outside of the skull just under the skin of the temple, expands and causes release of chemicals that bring about inflammation, pain and further distention of the artery. The sympathetic nervous system responds to the release of chemicals with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. This response also delays food absorption and decreases the blood circulation. Migraines are generally caused by emotional and physical stress, skipping meals or fasting, alcohol, hormone fluctuations during menopause, irregular sleep, allergies and allergic reactions and smoking.
