A recent theory proclaims that bacterial infection is the primary cause of peptic ulcers which are formed when the lining of the stomach and the upper part of the small intestine become perforated with holes. Other factors such as overuse of painkillers, antibiotics which destroy the healthy flora of the gut and advancing age can also contribute to ulcers. As age advances, the muscle valve between the stomach and duodenum relaxes allowing excess flow of bile which can irritate the stomach lining and lead to ulcers.
Buttermilk is the simplest way to treat and take care of the ulcers. Churn one kilo of homemade curd till the butter is separated from the whey. Skim the butter and use the buttermilk for drinking. Drink as many glasses of it as you can.
Buttermilk is full of healthy bacteria which destroy the infection causing bacteria and inundate the gut with healthy flora. Buttermilk also aids digestion and neutralizes the stomach acid. It soothes the ulcers and its nutrients play a crucial role in healing them.
