Canker sores are small and shallow painful ulcers which are found appearing inside the mouth. Canker sore is very common in teens and adults. Poor diet, some particular food allergy, vitamin deficiencies, excessive stress leads to the development of canker sores on inside of the lips, cheeks and under tongue Canker sores cause a burning pain which increases when the sores are irritated by acidic foods or drinks such as orange juice.

The most common reason of canker sore is eating abrasive foods which cause small scratches inside the mouth and even gums. The 5 tips to prevent canker sores are as follows:

Brush Properly

You should brush your teeth well and should know the proper way, because one of the main reasons of canker sores is poor technique of brushing. Brush your teeth properly every morning and night before you go to bed.

Avoid brushing your teeth and gums too hard with the toothbrush. Hold your toothbrush and rotate your hand in circular motions on the teeth and the gums.

Use Baking Soda

You can apply a paste of baking soda directly on the canker sores to get immediate relief from the pain caused by the canker sores.

You can also add some water to the baking soda, mix them well and then use it as a mouthwash every day two times; once in the morning and once at night after having your dinner. You should wash your mouth with this solution several times and always spit out the solution and never swallow it.

Use Good Mouthwash Solutions

You should gargle well with calendula tea, sage tea, aloe vera juice which will reduce the inflammation caused due to canker sores. Calendula tea- take some dried calendula (1-2 teaspoons) in a cup of boiling water, let it steep for 10 minutes, strain it well and then use this tea as a mouthwash 3-4 times every day.

Sage tea- Take 2 teaspoons of dried sage in a cup of boiling water let it steep until cool and then gargle with it. Aloe vera- Use 1-3 tablespoons of aloe vera juice as a mouthwash every day. You can also use chamomile along with water as a mouth solution.

Use Ice And Salt

Apply ice directly on the area affected by canker sores. You can slowly melt the ice or use an ice cube on the affected area for immediate relief. Salt- Take some salt (1 teaspoon), baking soda (1 teaspoon) and hydrogen peroxide (2 ounces), mix them well and wash your mouth with this solution 3-4 times every day.

You can also wash your mouth with salt water (lukewarm) and even apply salt directly on the sores.

Avoid Abrasive Foods

Cereals, chips, nuts, sharp and crunchy foods cause scratching of the interior of the mouth and thus cause canker sores, so you should avoid these foods and also avoid acidic foods like coffee, vinegar, citrus fruits (orange, grapefruit , pineapple) tobacco, spicy and salty foods.

So getting rid of canker sore is not that difficult and by following the above mentioned 5 tips you can easily get good results within a very short time.
