How To Prevent Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is a condition of vomiting and nausea that affects more than 50% of pregnant women. In most of the cases, it is experienced in the early morning and get reduced with the passing day. However, sometimes contradicting its name, it can happen at any time and can last for the complete day.Eating crackers or potato chips, as soon as you experience morning sickness, can dissipate it.

There are many ways for treating morning sickness, but natural remedies are the best option for curing it. Before you visit a doctor, it is always suggested to try natural treatments that are easily available at home. Natural treatments not only save your money, but also help you to remove the disorder without spending any single penny.

Natural Ways For Preventing Morning Sickness

Crackers And Potato Chips

Crackers are easy to digest, inexpensive and portable edibles. They help in curing nausea. Potato chips also do the same thing. Eating crackers or potato chips, as soon as you realize morning sickness, can dissipate it.

However, consume regular potato chips and do not eat fat-free varieties of potato chips as they contain olestra, which can snatch off from your body important nutrients, and can cause diarrhea.

Fruits And Vegetables

Dehydration is also one of the major causes of nausea thus intake of water plays an important role during pregnancy. Apart from normal drinking water, foods rich in water content can be taken to prevent morning sickness.

For e.g. carrots, melons, grapes, celery, pears, apples, etc. A small slice of lime, lemon or orange can also be used in water or herbal tea to prevent morning sickness.

Fennel

Its seed, is a morning sickness remedy from Chinese folk medicine; it contains anesthetic constituents that can cure nausea. To use fennel seed, as a remedy for morning sickness, take one tablespoon of fennel seeds and crush them. After this, add these crushed fennel seeds in hot water. Cover it and drink the tea after 10 minutes to cure nausea.

Ginger

Ginger is popular as a morning sickness cure; especially in the Pacific Northwest’s and the New England’s folk medicine. Its root contains gingerols and shogaols (chemicals that help in relaxing the intestinal tract, thus relieving nausea and vomiting).

You can consume ginger as ginger tea, ginger candy, etc. For preparing tea, take half powdered gingers and add it to boiling water. Leave the solution for 10 minutes, and then drink it to cure morning sickness. Take this tea 2-3 times a day for better results.

Lavender And Thyme

During pregnancy, odors can bother you too much and can also cause morning sickness. To prevent this problem, Lavender and Thyme can be used. Keep with yourself a small pouch stuffed with them. A handkerchief scented with fresh lemon can also be used. Put the hanky or pouch on your nose and take deep breaths.

Mint

Mint can also be used as a cure for morning sickness because of its anesthetic constituents like fennel.

For consumption of mint , you can prepare a mint herbal tea by taking a tablespoon of mint leaves in a 1/8th gallon of hot water. Let it cool down for 20 minutes, then strain the solution and drink it.

Eat Small Meals Frequently

Instead of having three big meals a day, you can have small meals, 5-6 times a day at a regular interval. The reason behind this is, when there is no food, acids do not have anything to digest; this brings the feelings of nausea.

Thus, when you are eating at a regular interval, acids will always have something to act on. Avoid spicy foods. Go for bread, pasta, potatoes, peanut butter, nuts and dairy products.
