Pneumonia is the condition leading to the inflammation of the lung. It is primarily caused due to bacterial or viral infection and is diagnosed by an X-ray check or sputum examination. The very common symptoms of pneumonia are chest pain, fever, cough and difficulty in breathing (feeling congestion).
Pneumonia becomes fatal after a point and its treatment should not be neglected. However, the following are the preventive measures so that chances of getting pneumonia affected become negligible.
Top 5 Ways To Prevent Pneumonia
Vaccination
Vaccination is by far the greatest prevention to pneumonia. Two different vaccinations (one for children over six months called PCV and the other for people aged over sixty five called PPSV) are available.
Vaccinations for measles, flu and chicken pox can keep these other diseases, which lead to pneumonia, at bay. A yearly flu shot and a booster dose (after the initial vaccination) every five years is important and experts’ best advice.
Good Hygiene
Hygiene is a must to prevent oneself against any disease; more so for diseases like pneumonia which is caused due to infections. Showering daily with body wash or soaps (keeping neglected regions like the armpit and groin clean is essential), shampooing the hair at least once a week, using hand sanitizers, moisturising the skin using lotions, keeping the finger nails short and clean, brushing teeth at least twice daily, using cologne and getting rid of dirty clothes are the common ways in which cleanliness should be practiced. It will take time and effort to be particular about so much every day, but doctors recommend it strongly.
Quit Smoking
Tobacco is responsible for rendering the lungs less able to tackle infections in it. And since pneumonia is but a lung infection, it becomes apparent as to how much at risk one might put himself into by not quitting smoking. Alcoholism and drug use are also discouraged by experts who consider them no short of risk factors.
Similarly almost, avoiding the toxicity that has pervaded so much of the environment is another protective measure. Chemical and pollutants in the atmosphere are also known to result in infection, consequently leading to pneumonia.
Garlic, Fenugreek Tea And Sesame Seeds
At least three cups of tea prepared from fenugreek seeds should be consumed daily as prevention to pneumonia. Garlic likewise, helps prevent pneumonia – it can either be taken as juice or in food.
The mixture of crushed sesame seeds, water, honey and linseed can be consumed occasionally such that the body is kept protected against infection. However, it should be mentioned here that trying all of these together is not recommended. They can be done selectively (in intervals of a month say) to reap benefits.
Turmeric
Turmeric finds immense use in pneumonia prevention. It is known to treat infections. The mixture of turmeric in warm milk should be drunk daily (preferably before sleep) so that the lungs remain protected against pneumonia.
These are preventive measures against pneumonia. They should not be compromised on because, God forbid, diseases strike without prior consultation – they might be evoked by minute issues but they grow dangerous in little time.
