Shingles is caused by viral infection from which millions of people suffer every year. The virus that causes chickenpox also causes shingles. After one contracts chickenpox in childhood, the herpes zoster virus is not fully eliminated from the body and it becomes dormant in the nerve tissue. It becomes activated years later to erupt as a skin rash.

The red rash turns into fluid filled blisters. The fluid oozes out when the blisters burst open and later they become crusted. The rash and blisters cause uncommon pain, burning sensation, unbearable itching and sometimes even numbness. Shingles is very contagious and it can be transmitted by direct contact with the blisters or the infected fluid oozing out of the blisters. People with a weak immune system are more susceptible to this disease as their body is unable to combat the virus and contain the infection.

The first step towards preventing shingles is to strengthen the immune system and to keep the body and all its processes in good functioning order. Amla is a potent pathogen destroyer with its array of powerful medicinal qualities.

It also strengthens the immune system and enables it perform optimally. Grate one big amla and steep it into a glass of warm water. After ten minutes, consume the mixture without straining it. Do this, every morning on a regular basis.

Ginger

You should eat ginger or drink ginger tea around the year to keep your body free from pathogens and harmful toxins and to keep your immune system in optimum function.

Ginger is well known for its antioxidant, antiviral and immunity boosting properties. Add one teaspoon of grated ginger to your daily cup of tea or eat a few slices of raw ginger with every meal. You can also add chopped ginger to all your cooked vegetables and lentils.

Garlic

Neem

You can prevent shingles and a host of other diseases by eating the neem fruit and four or five tender and young neem leaves for four or five days once in a year.

Doing so, will provide you with immunity against all kinds of infections for the rest of the year and keep you in good health.
