How To Prevent Thrush

Share

Thrush is a common infection caused by the overgrowth of the yeast known as Candida albicans which leads to oral and vaginal infection. Small amounts of the yeast are always to be found in the mouth and the digestive tract and they are kept under control by the immune system and the healthy bacteria present in the mouth and the digestive tract. But if the immune system is compromised due to some illness or the healthy bacteria are destroyed by the intake of antibiotics and steroids, then the yeast grows and multiplies rapidly and causes infection.

Creamy white and slightly raised lesions appear on the tongue, inner cheeks, back of the throat and gums. The lesions have a cottage cheese like appearance and are very painful. They bleed instantly if you try to scrape them off. The lesions can also spread to the esophagus and cause fever and difficulty in swallowing. There are several measures you can take to keep the yeast at bay and prevent thrush.

Best Ways To Prevent Thrush

Amla

Keeping your immune system in prime health is the first and foremost priority. Amla with its impressive array of potent medicinal values not only scavenges the harmful free radicals and drives them out of the body but it also strengthens the immune system and keeps it in optimum function.

Taking amla round the year is an excellent way of keeping all kinds of infections and diseases at bay. Swallow one teaspoon of dried amla powder with a glass of water every morning.

Curd

It is equally essential to increase the number of healthy bacteria in the mouth as well as the digestive tract so that they can keep the Candida albicans from getting out of control.

Curd is full of probiotics and key nutrients which help to maintain the overall health of the body and keep its organs in good function. Eat one cup of curd twice daily with your meals.

Ginger Tea

The use of antibiotics can cause a conflagration of thrush because antibiotics destroy all the good bacteria and gives the Candida albicans yeast a chance to proliferate. Ginger has superb antibiotic properties which cure innumerable diseases and ailments and at the same time keep the count of the healthy bacteria intact.

Instead of using commercial antibiotics for common ailments and infections you can use ginger. Grate a big piece of ginger and add one teaspoon of it to a cup of boiling water. Boil on a low heat for a minute then allow the tea to stand for ten minutes after which strain it drink three to four cups of it daily.
