How To Treat Anemia

Share

Anemia is a condition in which the count of red blood cells also known as hemoglobin is less than normal. The normal level of red blood cells is different in men and women. Men require a higher level of red blood cells than women. The red blood cells are manufactured in the bone marrow and their life span is usually around one hundred and twenty days. Anemia is basically caused by either a decrease in production of red blood cells or an increase in loss or destruction of the red blood cells.

Many patients with anemia experience no symptoms but most people feel fatigue, get easily tired, appear pale, have a racing heart, shortness of breath, dry mouth and nervousness. Iron is a major component of hemoglobin and very crucial for its normal function therefore inadequate amounts of it can also cause anemia. Vitamin B12 is another nutrient, essential for normal levels of hemoglobin in the blood. People who are vegetarians or who are unable to absorb vitamin B12 from their intestines can also suffer from anemia.
