Rheumatoid arthritis occurs due to a malfunctioning immune system which starts destroying the healthy cells that line the joint in the knee and inflame the cartilage. It can gradually erode the cartilage and make the joint red, stiff and swollen. The pain and swelling are worse in the morning when you wake up. The pain can also increase after a period of inactivity or after walking, climbing stairs and bending the knee while performing some task. It makes the knees weak and often they buckle up or collapse under one’s weight.
The main purpose in treating knee arthritis is to reduce the pain and increase the function of the knee without which one is unable to walk, stand, climb stairs or bend the knee. Mustard oil has powerful healing and curative powers. It is full of valuable nutrients and is a very rich source of magnesium.
Magnesium is easily absorbed by the skin and it provides great relief in the swelling and pain. Massage your knees with mustard oil for ten minutes two or three times daily.
Arthritis pain becomes aggravated when the weather changes. Light exercise such as flexing and stretching can alleviate the pain and increase the range of motion. They also strengthen the muscles in the legs and stimulate blood circulation.
Sit on a mat with your legs stretched straight in front of you. Flex your toes forwards and backwards for ten minutes. Do this exercise twice or thrice and you will find your mobility has increased considerably.
Ghee has powerful anti-inflammatory and strengthening properties. It provides vital nourishment to the bones, tendons, ligaments and muscles and arrests the damage to the cartilage.
It also helps in the regeneration of the damaged cells and increases the function of the knees. Mix one teaspoon of ghee in a cup of hot milk and drink it twice everyday. Also massage your knees with some warm ghee for ten minutes everyday.
Ajwain has great significance in ayurvedic medicine. It has been used since centuries for purifying the blood, strengthening the immune system and increasing the functionality of all the organs in the body.
Its anti-inflammatory properties provide instant relief in the pain and swelling and make the knees more functional. Grind some ajwain to a fine powder and store it in a jar. Swallow a teaspoon of it with some water twice daily.
Eucalyptus oil has very powerful anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. Take some eucalyptus oil and rub it gently on and around the knees for ten minutes.
After the massage cover your knees with a warm woolen cloth for half an hour. Eucalyptus oil will not only stimulate the circulation but will also mitigate the swelling and pain.
