5 Ways To Treat Boils

Share

A boil occurs when there is a bacterial infection in the hair follicles and the nearby skin. Generally boils are caused by the staphylococcus aureus bacteria. When the hair follicle becomes damaged, the bacteria pierce the damaged wall and penetrate deep within the hair follicle to reach the tissues under it. The boil begins as a tender, swollen and red area in the skin. It erupts as a firm bump with a yellow center and swells with fluid after some time.

Boils can be as small as a pea or big as a lime. They grow quickly and can spread rapidly to other areas of the body and can join with other boils. If the boils fill up with pus and dead skin cells they cause unbearable pain and usually have to be opened to drain the pus. Boils are a common occurrence can erupt anywhere on the body but are more common on the face, armpit, neck, buttocks and thighs.
