How To Treat Bronchitis

Share

Bronchitis is a disease of the respiratory tract. It occurs when the mucous membranes in the bronchial passages become inflamed. As the irritated membranes swell and grow thicker, they become narrower and shut off the tiny airways in the lungs. This results in coughing spells which are accompanied by phlegm and breathlessness. There can also be fever, chills, aches, and uncommon fatigue.

Bronchitis is mainly caused by viral infections but sometimes bacterial infections too are responsible for it. Acute bronchitis lasts for about three to four weeks while chronic bronchitis lasts for three to four months in a year with two years in a row. The chest is racked with a hacking cough that can become a productive cough, producing yellowish green mucus. If the lung infection clears off within a month then you will not have a repeated attack but if it lasts for longer than a month then the attacks can become recurrent.

Best Ways To Treat Bronchitis

Ginger

Ginger helps to treat bronchitis easily and effectively. Its antiviral, antibacterial properties take care of the infection; sweep it out of the body and its anti-inflammatory properties reduce the inflammation in the lungs and the bronchial passages.

Boil a glass of water and add one teaspoon of grated ginger to it. Continue boiling on a low flame for two minutes then turn off the gas. Cover the pan and after ten minutes strain the tea and drink three cups of it daily.

Honey And Black Pepper

Honey and black pepper work together to eradicate the infection from the lungs and to soothe the irritated mucous membranes in the bronchial passages. They also help to reduce the phlegm and thus allow the air to move in and move out freely.

Crush half a teaspoon of peppercorns and mix it with one teaspoon of honey. Chew the peppercorns slowly before swallowing. Take this medicine twice daily.
