3 Tips To Treat Damaged Hair And Restore Their Health

Damaged hair looks dry, brittle and rough. If you do not take proper care of your hair, they lose their shine and gloss. Hair gets damaged by exposure to pollution, excessive heat, swimming in chlorinated water and due to excessive use of chemical hair products like hair colour, hair spray or strong shampoo and hair conditioner. Frequent hair treatments like ironing, straightening, perming etc. also cause damage to the hair.

You can restore the health of your hair with regular hair care and make them healthy and supple. To treat your damaged hair, you need not buy expensive hair care products from the market. There are several options available right in your home that you can use to treat damaged hair.

Methods To Treat Damaged Hair

Oiling

Oil massage is essential for treating damaged hair. You should oil your hair at least once a week in summers and twice a week in winters to treat dry hair. Coconut oil helps to restore hair growth and makes them healthy and strong. Warm ¼ cup coconut oil and add a few drops of lemon to it. Massage it in the scalp and leave it on overnight or at least for 2 hours before shampoo. Mix almond oil and olive oil in equal proportion and warm it. Apply it in the roots with the help of a cotton swab. Wrap your hair with a wet towel and shampoo after 1/ 2 an hour.

Moisturising

Damaged hair becomes brittle and weak. To treat damaged hair, use homemade hair moisturiser once a week. Take 1/2 cup mayonnaise; add 1 table spoon honey in it. Wet your hair and apply the paste with your fingers. Cover each strand of your hair till the end. Put on a shower cap and leave it on for ½ an hour. Wash hair with a mild shampoo. Take one ripe banana, mash it thoroughly. Add 2 table spoons curd and 1 tea spoon lemon juice. Use it as mentioned above to teat damaged hair.

Conditioning

Hair conditioning is important to treat dry and brittle hair. It helps to make hair smooth and manageable for hair styling. Amla is a natural cleanser and an excellent hair conditioner. Boil 2-3 fresh amlas in 500 ml. water. Mash amla to make pulp. Pass it through a sieve. Apply the paste in your hair after shampoo for 3-4 minutes and rinse with normal water. Do this treatment once a week to treat damaged hair. Take beetroot leaves and henna leaves in equal proportion.

Wash and grind them to make a fine paste. Apply it in the scalp and leave it on for ½ an hour. Wash hair with normal water. Apart from following the above mentioned treatments for damaged hair, you should protect hair from harsh sun rays, strong winds and pollution to prevent damage to them. Wear a hat or a scarf to cover your hair. Always wear a swimming cap to protect hair from chlorinated pool water. Minimize the use of hair dryer and hair spray to prevent hair from being damaged.
