More than half of the body mass of humans is constituted of water that is the direct indication of crucial role of water, in running all processes of life. Every cell requires adequate amount of water to function appropriately. Water is second most vital need of the body, next to oxygen and is present in the form of interstitial fluids, intracellular fluids, cerebrospinal fluids and significant part of blood.

Lack of water or dehydration in the body can imbalance various bodily functions. Dehydration for prolonged periods can become fatal too. Water is the savior that reduces the affect of all diseases to half its potential. It is quite easy to incorporate water in adequate amounts in diet of every individual. But, still many of us do suffer from dehydration. For them, there are many ways to combat it easily at home.

Watery Fruits

Watery fruits should be included while one suffers from dehydration. Bananas are rich in water content and also beneficial for restoring the loss of potassium during dehydration.

Also, include watermelon, cantaloupe and strawberries. Watery vegetables like cucumbers are also equally good due to their extreme high water content.

Electrolyte Solution

Prepare an Electrolyte solution to revive the salts and water balance within the body. Electrolyte can be easily prepared by adding 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 table spoon of lime juice and a pinch of salt, in one pint of water.  Sip this most effective solution through the entire day to get better from dehydration rapidly.

Bland Foods

While suffering from dehydration, stick to bland foods for one complete day as these gets easily digested and relieves one from the usual stomach cramps symptom that occur during dehydration.

Go for potatoes, rice, soda crackers and flavoured gelatins. Gelatins are very effective as they are made primarily of water. Start and end the day by drinking 16 ounces of water to treat and prevent dehydration.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is the natural alternative for energy drink that is high in electrolytes and adequately hydrating. It has same content as that of blood plasma and at times, even used as a saline solution for blood transfusions during emergency.

It is also rich in iron and potassium and therefore, an effective home remedy to treat chronic dehydration cases and restore mineral balance within the body. Coconut water is low in sugar as well as calories.

Salt

Loss of salt is the symptom of dehydration and to get recover from it, eat salty nuts, crackers or pretzels. For sloughing off dry skin flakes, sprinkle salt onto the hands and rub it over the skin after a bath. This ensures that dryness is lowered and the skin feels much smoother.

It invigorates the dehydrated skin and keeps the circulation active. Alternatively, one can soak in salt water by adding one cup of sea salt or plain salt to one tub of bathwater, to get rid of itchiness due to dehydration, feel relaxed and develop a softer skin.

Milk Products

Cottage cheese and yogurt are helpful in restoring lost potassium and sodium levels. Consuming one cup of yogurt mixed with 1 tablespoon of fenugreek powder is known to be the most effective and valuable natural remedy for treating dehydration.

One may try drinking one cup of buttermilk mixed with ½ a tablespoon of dry ginger for 3 to 4 times a day, to treat chronic dehydration.

Ice

During high dehydration that keeps one overheated, suck on an ice cube or rub it over the skin surfaces to keep the body cool down and prevent more loss of water through evaporation. Consumption of a Popsicle is a good way for restoration of water in the body and is an easy method to be employed in kids and increase their fluid content.

Moreover, freeze bottled water by filling ¾ of the bottle with water. Then add some cold water on top. This ensures the water remains cold for many hours, while on the go. In case, the need is more when one is out for long duration. Then freeze another bottle to have cold sips throughout the day. This serves to be the easiest, but really helpful approach in combating dehydration blues.

Epsom Salt Bath

Indulge in Epsom salt bath, a well established home remedy to absorb magnesium through skin. It also aids in improving sore muscles and reducing inflammation, observed during chronic dehydration cases.

Epsom salts are also rich in sulphates that aids in absorption of nutrients and assist body to attain a right nutrient balance more rapidly.
