During a migraine attack the sympathetic nervous system in the body is stirred into activity. This part of the nervous system controls primitive responses to stress and pain that is why the increased activity of the sympathetic nervous system in the intestine causes diarrhea, nausea and vomiting during a migraine attack. This unnatural activity also decreases the blood circulation and leads to cold hands and feet and a pale skin. There is also increased sensitivity to light and sound and the vision too becomes blurred at times. Migraine headaches are intense and cause a throbbing or pounding pain that involves only one temple. Sometimes the pain can also occur in the forehead and around the eye.

Peppermint oil is very aromatic and has potent anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. Take some peppermint oil and rub it on the side that is aching.
Rub gently for four or five minutes. Also boil a cup of water and steep one teaspoon of dried peppermint into it for ten minutes. Strain the tea and drink three cups of it daily. This tea will relieve the nausea and vomiting.
Ginger has powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties. Boil one cup of water and add one grated teaspoon of ginger to it. Continue boiling on a low heat for a few seconds then turn off the heat.
After ten minutes strain the tea and drink it three or four times daily. Ginger will stimulate the blood circulation and increase the blood flow. It will also reduce the swelling and provide relief in the pain.
Mustard oil has superb warming and rubefacient properties that can reduce the inflammation and relieve the pain swiftly. Warm some mustard oil and dissolve a piece of camphor into it.
Massage your temple and forehead with this oil for five minutes. Mustard oil will increase circulation and will also calm the irritated nerves.
Fill a basin with some chilled water and add a few drops of sandalwood oil to it. Dip a clean and soft cotton towel into it. Wring out the excess water and fold the towel several times to form a compress.
Place the compress on your forehead and keep it there till it begins to get warm. Dip it again into the chilled water and repeat the process for twenty minutes.
