Share

Osteoporosis is a bone disease in which the bones become weak and increase the risk of fractures. This disease steals upon one silently and the back pain that one experiences is often thought to be caused by aging and arthritis. In the advanced stages the bone density is reduced considerably as a result of which the bones become weak and cause the spine to collapse. This disease is more common in women because of menopause and low levels of estrogen hormones.

A sudden and severe back pain often signifies a spinal compression and a sign of weak bones. The bones begin to thin and they become brittle. It is only when a bone is fractured that the onset of the disease is discovered. It mostly affects the bones of the spine, hip and wrist area. Deficiency of vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus are mainly responsible for osteoporosis. Diabetes, overactive thyroid and rheumatoid arthritis can also lead to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis can be easily treated with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Alcohol and smoking both increase bone loss and interfere with the absorption of calcium in the body. The also reduce the estrogen levels in the body and decrease bone formation.

You should also walk around cautiously so as to prevent falls. Wear low heeled shoes with non slip soles. Always take the support of a handrail when climbing stairs and install grab bars inside the shower.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds have many therapeutic values. They are full of valuable nutrients and are extremely rich in calcium. Instead of taking calcium supplements which can harm the body, it is best to derive it from natural sources and increase its level in the body.
