Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease of the joints in which the joint becomes inflamed for no apparent reason. The symptoms can come and go and each person is affected differently. Some people have long periods of remission while others experience constant pain for months at a stretch. The joint becomes become stiff and has a very limited range of motion. Fluid can also enter the joint making it puffy and stiffer. The area where the joint is located appears red and feels warm to the touch.

This disease can affect any joint in the body but it commonly affects the knees, wrists, shoulders, elbows and neck. The symptoms which are wide and varied are muscle aches, fatigue, general malaise, loss of appetite and weight loss. Sometimes rheumatoid nodules form under the skin especially at the elbows and cause excruciating pain. Morning stiffness is the main characteristic of this disease. People suffering from this disease require over an hour to loosen the joints and effect movement.

Rest as Much as Possible

You should get at least eight of sleep every night. People suffering from rheumatoid arthritis require proper rest and relaxation at frequent intervals.

You should also do muscle relaxation exercises to increase the blood flow to the joint and muscles and to prevent them from becoming stiff. Deep breathing exercises will help you to release the tension and keep you calm and peaceful.

Mustard Oil

Warm some mustard oil and massage the affected joint with it for twenty to thirty minutes two or three times daily. Mustard oil is very rich in magnesium which is easily absorbed by the skin.

Magnesium removes the stiffness from the joint and strengthens the muscles, tendons and the ligaments. Mustard oil is also full of key nutrients that help to keep the bones and muscles in good health.

Ghee

Ghee has great importance in ayurvedic medicine. It has been used since time unknown for curing and healing a wide range of diseases and disorders. Warm some ghee and add a piece of camphor to it. Massage the painful joint three times with it for ten to fifteen minutes daily.

Ghee and camphor will both reduce the inflammation and the pain. Ghee will also nourish the joint and increase its flexibility thereby making movement easy and painless.

Fish Oil

Fish oil has large amounts of omega 3 fatty acids which have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These fatty acids not only boost immunity but also remove all the harmful free radicals from the body and detoxify it thoroughly. They reduce the inflammation and pain and also alleviate the stiffness. Take one capsule of fish oil twice daily.

Ice Pack

Take a clean soft towel and wrap some ice cubes into it. Apply the ice pack to the painful joint and keep it there for at least twenty minutes.

The chillness will help to reduce the inflammation and will also reduce the muscle spasms and numb the pain. You can apply the ice pack as frequently as you want.
