5 Ways To Treat Sinusitis

Share

Sinusitis is caused by the inflammation of the sinuses which are air filled spaces in the skull and located behind the forehead, cheeks, nasal bones and eyes. The sinuses contain small hairs known as the cilia which trap the impurities from the air and help to move out the mucus. Healthy sinuses do not contain any bacteria or other germs and since the mucus is able to drain out, the air is able to circulate freely.

When a person suffers from colds, flu or allergies, the mucous membranes become inflamed and begin producing too much mucus which is thick and full of bacteria and other germs. This thick mucus accumulates in the nasal passages and blocks the opening of the sinuses leading to fever, headaches, pain behind the eyes, pain and tenderness in the face, toothache, stuffy nose, sore throat, loss of smell, bad breath and severe cough which becomes worse at night. The patient also feels acute listlessness and fatigue and general malaise.
