Stomach flu is caused by eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water which contains bacteria, viruses, parasites and other harmful germs which cause infection. Stomach flu also known as gastroenteritis is usually caused by viruses like the rotoviruses, calciviruses or the norovirus which enter the stomach and the intestines by ingesting food and water which contain these viruses.
The main symptoms are abdominal cramps, watery and frequent stools, nausea, vomiting, headaches, muscle aches and fever. The symptoms generally appear three or four days after being infected and can be either mild or severe lasting from two or three days to more than ten days. A person suffering from stomach flu also feels very listless and lethargic due to weakness. You can also contract the infection by coming into contact with an infected person who has not washed his/her hands properly after visiting the toilette and the virus remains, sticking to his/her hands and when he/she touches another object or shake hands with another person the virus is transmitted to him/her.
Churn some homemade curd till the butter floats on the top. Remove the butter and use the remaining buttermilk for drinking. If the liquid is thick then add some water to dilute it and drink three to four glasses of it everyday.
Buttermilk is full of healthy bacteria which will help to counteract the infection. It will also soothe the inflamed lining of the stomach and the intestines and provide relief from diarrhea.
Drink tender coconut water three times daily. Coconut water will not only help to sustain the reserves of energy but it will also soothe the irritated lining of the gastrointestinal tract and alleviate the nausea and vomiting.

Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a glass of water and add one teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of rock salt to it. Sip this mixture slowly three or four times daily.

Boil one cup of water and steep six or seven fresh mint leaves into it for ten minutes. Strain the tea and drink three to four cups of it daily.
