Share

Sun poisoning is caused by overexposure to the sun’s rays known as ultraviolet rays. Sun poisoning is a severe form of sunburn wherein the skin becomes uncommonly inflamed due to ultraviolet radiation. The ultraviolet rays are most intense at noon and a couple of hours before and after noon. The intense heat and the ultraviolet rays penetrate the skin tissues and damage the DNA making the skin red, hot, sore and tender. Even the merest touch can cause intense pain.

The person may also become dehydrated; run a high temperature, experience nausea and vomiting, dizziness and chills. The pulse too becomes accelerated along with rapid breathing and the patient can even go into shock. Several days after the exposure, the skin swells and becomes very itchy. Blisters appear on the skin and it begins to peel after a few days. Ultraviolet radiation can also damage the eyes. Fair skinned people are more prone to sun poisoning than people with darker complexions.
