How To Treat Tendonitis

Share

Tendons are tough yet flexible fiber tissues in our body that connect the muscles to the bones. When these muscles contract and the tissues get inflamed, they cause problem in smooth and easy movement. Thus the inflammation and pain of the tendons is known as tendonitis.

The main cause of tendonitis is a repeat of action, for example a sportsman or someone at work doing the same action over and over again. An injury could also be a cause. Aging is another reason and in some cases, the disease such as arthritis. The symptoms of tendonitis are pain while you move a muscle or walk, a swelling and redness around the affected area. Sometimes, a developing lump is visible. Here are some ways to treat tendonitis

Best Ways To Treat Tendonitis

Ice Packs And Compression

The first and the most important thing to do other than resting the affected area is to apply ice packs on it. Ice will not only reduce the pain, but will also help in bringing down the swelling. Do not keep the ice for a long period of time and remember to wrap the ice in a towel and then apply it. You can also try compression.

Take an elastic bandage and wrap it around the affected area. This will help to bring down the swelling and help in the movement of that particular muscle. Do not wrap the elastic bandage too tight around the area. Another point to remember is that the bandage should be wrapped at least 3-4 inches more than the affected area on either side as this will help in the grip and balance of the muscle.

Oil Massage

We all know about the healing properties of coconut and eucalyptus oils. Take any one of these oils and warm it a little. Apply to the affected area and gently massage the area.

This will not only reduce the swelling but also help in reducing the joint pain.  Both these oils have anti-inflammatory properties. Do not heat the oil too much or massage the area too hard. You must also preferably massage in a circular motion, as this also helps in blood circulation.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds have some hidden healing properties and are very effective in giving relief from painful tendonitis. Take 2-3 tsp of sesame seeds and powder it.

Take 1tbs of turpentine or kerosene and mix this well with the powdered sesame seeds. Apply to the affected area and keep it for some time. After about 20 to 30 minutes, you can wash the area with clean water. Do this treatment two times a day.

Potassium

Eating potassium rich food is very good in the condition of tendonitis. Potassium is a mineral that helps the nerves and the muscles to work in tandem and function properly.

Some of the potassium rich foods which you can include in your diet are fish, red meat, chicken, bananas and vegetables.

Cayenne Pepper And Ginger

Take some cayenne pepper and some olive oil and mix them well. Apply this paste to the affected area. Keep it on for at least 20 minutes. Cayenne pepper has some special properties that can boost and enhance the blood circulation in the affected part. As a result it helps in healing faster.

Ginger is another herb which is useful to heal tendonitis. Ginger has some compounds which reduce the inflammation and pain in the affected area.  Ginger juice or ginger tea is very useful in this condition. Have it twice a day. You can also prepare a paste of ginger and turmeric powder and apply to the affected area.
