How To Treat Toe Fungus

Share

Toe fungus is caused by a fungus known as tinea pedi. This fungus thrives in warm and moist places such as places in between the toes. This infection is very contagious and it can be easily transmitted either by direct skin to skin contact or by walking barefoot on contaminated surfaces of public bathrooms, swimming pool floors and gyms. The infection appears in the form of a red rash which causes intractable itching and burning.

The skin becomes red, dry and scaly and begins to flake. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the other toes, toenails, soles and sides of the feet. In severe cases the skin begins to crack and blisters may erupt which fill up with fluid. The fluid keeps oozing out of the blisters and there is a wetness and foul smell in between the toes. Thick, tight and shoes made out of synthetic materials which do not absorb the sweat and allow no circulation of air, provide an ideal environment for the fungus to thrive and flourish.

Effective Remedies That Will Cure Toe Fungus Quickly

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has powerful antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties which can easily eradicate the fungus and cure the infection totally. Dip a cotton ball into some tea tree oil and dab it all over the affected toes three or four times daily.

Apply the oil for a few days even after the infection has cleared away to make sure that there are no remnants of the fungi lurking in between the toes or inside the toenail.

Listerine Mouthwash

Listerine mouthwash is antiseptic and contains alcohol and several compounds like salicylate, thymol and euchalyptol which can kill the fungus instantly and in totality.

Mix some mouthwash and lemon juice in equal quantities and soak your toes in this solution for ten to fifteen minutes. Wipe your feet and toes after the soak and dry them thoroughly. Use this soak twice a day and very soon you will be free from the infection.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has a plethora of healing and curative powers. It has potent antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties which not only destroy the fungus but also bring relief in the itching and burning and prevent the skin from flaking. Rub your toes, feet and soles with plenty of coconut oil three or four times daily.
