The common cold, a most frequently occurring illness, is a viral infection and is a very distressing and nagging problem. It causes multiple discomforts, like a runny nose, headache, congested nose, and sore throat. Though it makes you very ill, it does not warrant your taking to bed and resting.

You have to keep going about, your daily routine. You can catch a cold through a number of reasons. You can contract it through allergies, sudden changes in temperature, exposure to cold or wet weather, weak immune system and dust. It is contagious too. The following methods can help you combat with this ailment, and build up your body resistance.

Tips To Cure Cold Naturally

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a sweet spice and contains powerful antioxidant compounds. It is rich in essential oils and has anti-microbial properties. Take a stick of cinnamon and pound it coarsely. Boil it in a glass of water for three or four minutes. Strain and add a teaspoon of honey. Drink it hot. Your throat will be considerably soothed. Have twice a day, everyday, till your cold is clear.

Clear Nasal Congestion With Ajwain Or Carom Seeds

Ajwain is great for fighting infection. It is known for its cleaning and blood purifying qualities. It has a very strong aroma and its essential oils like thymol have therapeutic qualities. Tie two teaspoons of ajwain in the center of a thin piece of cloth to make a small potli or pouch. Heat a griddle or tava.

When quite hot, place the pouch on it to heat. When sufficiently hot bring it close to your nose and inhale deeply. Repeat a few times. The hot fumes will immediately clear your congested nose. Go to bed instantly after this treatment.

Basil Or Tulsi

This is an age old plant very holy and sacred. A pooja cannot be performed without tulsi.It is considered very auspicious. Tulsi builds up immunity and heals a number of disorders. Boil seven to eight leaves of tulsi in one and a half glass of water. Boil till only a glass of water remains. Stir in a teaspoon of honey. Drink it hot. It will relieve the headache and stop the runny nose. Take two or three times a day.

Black Pepper

Black pepper is the king of spice and is widely used all over the world. It is rich in minerals and anti-oxidants such as vitamins A and C. Its flavonoid compounds neutralize the free radicals that damage the body tissues and protect against disease.

Crush two tablespoons of pepper corns and mix with four tablespoons of honey. Store in a jar. Eat one teaspoon twice a day and once before going to bed. Apart from relieving the cold, the soreness in the throat will vanish.

Steam

Steam can significantly dispel the discomforts of a runny nose, ease nasal congestion and headache. Take a pan full of boiling water. Sit with it at a table. Bend your face over the pan. Throw a large towel over your head to prevent the steam from escaping. Inhale till the water looses steam.
