Edema is the swelling caused by the accumulation of fluids in the body tissues. The swelling is very much apparent and is mainly found in the feet, legs and ankles. It can affect any part of the body and is mainly due to some underlying diseases of the kidneys, lungs, heart and thyroid.When the spaces or compartments in the body tissues outside the blood vessels swell with the accrual of fluids edema is caused. Edema can also happen if a person sits or stands in one place for long periods without any leg movement.
The water descends or gets pulled to the legs thereby accumulating and causing swelling. If the valves of the veins in the legs are weak, the veins are unable to push back the blood to the heart resulting in the buildup of fluid in the legs.Too much salt in the diet, poor nutrition, allergic reactions, severe burns and torn ligaments can also cause edema. The skin over the swollen area becomes tight and acquires a shine. Walking can be painful if the legs are swollen.
Apple cider vinegar is being used since centuries in treating a number of ailments and disorders. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help the body to stay healthy. Apply apple cider vinegar on the swollen parts several times. The swelling will subside and the itching caused by the stretching of the skin will be also reduced to minimum.
Coriander seeds hoard a number of minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, magnesium and copper. Potassium is essential for body tissues and body fluids. Coriander seeds are also rich in vitamin C which is a superb antioxidant and vital vitamins of the B-complex group.
Boil two tablespoons of coriander seeds in two cups of water. Simmer till the water is reduced to half. Consume the water with the seeds. This will prevent the accumulation of fluids in the tissue spaces and reduce swelling.
Mustard oil is a stimulant and heat generator. It improves and hones the blood circulation and releases the tightness in the muscles and relieves pain. Massage your legs and all other parts affected with edema, with warm mustard oil twice a day. The blood will flow easily in the veins reducing swelling and pain. You can also apply the water to the affected areas in which mustard seeds have been soaked for thirty minutes.
