5 Natural Cure For Halitosis

Share

Halitosis in other words means bad breath or oral malodor. This is a very distressing problem and can affect your social life as the bad odor emanating from your mouth can make people keep their distance from you.

Often, people suffering from halitosis are unaware of their problem and realization comes when they see the negative reaction of other people when they are close to them or when they are told about it. The main cause of halitosis is putrefaction of food particles in the mouth which are allowed to remain between the teeth and the back of the tongue due to lax brushing habits and negligent oral care.

Gum diseases, indigestion, alcohol, smoking, mouth infections and chronic lung and sinus infections also cause bad breath. In the morning the mouth gives off a foul smell because there is no flow of saliva during sleep and the decomposition of the debris present in the mouth leads to bad breath.

Natural Ways To Cure Halitosis

Cardamom

Cardamom is very fragrant and refreshing and has many therapeutic uses. It is a common practice to offer cardamom, paan and supari to guests after a meal or tea as a mark of hospitality. Cardamom aids digestion and increases the flow of saliva which conquers bad breath.

Keep a few cardamoms handy in your pocket and whenever your mouth gets dry pop one into your mouth and chew slowly. The rough outer layer of the cardamom is fibrous and when chewed slowly, it cleans the teeth and inhibits plaque formation.

Cloves

Cloves are very aromatic and possess scores of medicinal qualities. You don’t have to look far for a remedy or spend much as cloves are a common household spice and help you conquer bad breath most easily and effectively. Cloves are known to have antioxidant, antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

They inhibit the growth of bacteria in the mouth, reduce plaque formation and do away with infections. Cloves also help to break down and digest the food that we eat. Proper and thorough digestion does not give rise to any foul smelling chemicals which are exhaled by the lungs from the blood stream. Chew two cloves after every meal.

Tongue scrapper

Bacteria that live in our mouths produce the bad odor and most of them thrive on the back of the tongue. To fight bad breath it is necessary to clean the tongue and remove the bacteria from it.

Use a thin tongue scrapper which reaches far back in the mouth to the back of the tongue. Every time you brush your teeth, scrape your tongue clean with the scrapper.

Cinnamon

Pound a few sticks of cinnamon and boil it in two glasses of water for five minutes. Strain the decoction and use it for rinsing the mouth after every meal. Cinnamon will not only fix your bad breath but will also keep your mouth fresh and sweet smelling. The antibacterial properties of cinnamon help to keep the bacteria at bay.

Lemon And Water

Squeeze the juice of a lemon in a glass of warm water. Rinse your mouth frequently with this water to prevent bad breath. Lemons are rich in vitamin C which is an excellent antioxidant that curbs mouth infection and bacterial growth.
