Scratching your head or scalp all the time is not only an unsightly and ugly habit but it is also very irritating and painful. Certain changes in the body chemistry make the yeast that lives on the scalp and other hairy areas multiply quickly and feed on the dead skin cells and oils of the scalp. This causes severe itching and flaking which give a very unpleasant and unclean feel.
An itchy scalp can also result from harmful chemicals present in hair sprays, shampoos and conditioners, hair treatment like straightening and coloring and blow drying. Sometimes skin disorders like dermatitis, dandruff, dry scalp and lice infestation can also result in intense itching. It is important to wash the hair frequently and keep the scalp clean to prevent itching and subsequent hair loss.
Amla powder has been used since centuries for a number of ailments and diseases. It is full of vitamin C which is very beneficial for all types of skin disorders. Amla nourishes the scalp and the hair and enhances hair growth. Take two tablespoons of amla powder and mix it with curds to form a paste.
Apply the paste all over the scalp and keep massaging gently. Keep for half an hour. Afterwards wash off with warm water. The curd helps to moisturize the scalp and reduce itching. Amla discourages dandruff and removes all the dead skin. Continue with this hair wash throughout life and in addition to having lovely healthy hair, you will never have any scalp disorders.
Coconut oil has many medicinal uses and is very nourishing at the same time. It has a large number of antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties. Its application prevents all sorts of skin disorders and diseases.
It prevents the yeast from being active by killing it. Massage your scalp every night with warm coconut oil. The dryness will vanish and the itching will automatically reduce.
Tea tree oil is very efficient in curing all types of skin disorders. Its antifungal and astringent properties destroy the yeast and maintain scalp health. If you massage your scalp with this oil every night, your itching will disappear completely and bring great relief. Take ten to twelve drops of oil in the palm of your hand and with your fingers rub the oil all over the scalp. Massage well till the skin starts tingling.
Suhaga is a salt of the boric acid. It has great antiseptic properties. It is a great remedy for curing itching and dandruff. Take one heaped tablespoon of suhaga powder and mix it with one tablespoon of curd.
Add the juice of two limes to this mixture and mix well. Apply well on the scalp and massage thoroughly. After keeping it for twenty minutes, wash off with warm water. Apply twice a week and rid yourself of itching as well as dandruff.
Aloe vera gel has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It soothes the scalp and relieves itching. Take a big juicy leaf of aloe vera. Peel the skin and remove the gel. Rub this gel all over the scalp till all juice has been absorbed. Keep for half an hour then wash off with warm water.

With regard to the Amla powder - directions say to "mix it with curds" - what ARE curds anyway? The only time I've every really heard of them is when Little Miss Muffet was eating them with her whey. Thanks
