Pneumonia is a disease of the lungs in which the lungs get infected by a virus or bacteria and become inflamed. The air sacs present in the lungs fill up with mucous, pus and other fluids and are unable to function properly.If the function of the air sacs is impaired, it means that the blood and cells in the whole body are deprived of oxygen. Pneumonia generally begins when you inhale the germs into your lungs.
The lungs become irritated and inflamed and are unable to fight back the infection. Severe coughing accompanied by fever, shortness of breath, chest pains and chills are its main symptoms. Pneumonia can make you very sick and weak and cause great difficulty in breathing. It is usually a repercussion of colds, flu, and viral fevers. Sometimes chronic diseases like asthma, cancer and diabetes can also cause pneumonia.
Turpentine oil is strong resinous oil obtained from the pine tree. It has been in use since thousands of years for alleviating pain and keeping wounds clean. It eases breathing and relieves the pain in the chest. Because of its potency, very small quantities only should be used. Massage the ribs and the back with a little oil. Wrap the chest and back with a warm cotton wool cloth.
Ginger is commonly known for its antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. It kills the infection, reduces phlegm and eases breathing. Swallow one teaspoon of dried ginger powder with half a cup of hot milk every night before going to bed. Regular use will clear the lungs and the rasping in the chest will disappear.
Eucalyptus oil is very valuable in respiratory disorders. Its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and analgesic properties are very efficacious in relieving the symptoms of pneumonia. Besides being extremely safe it effects a quick recovery. It thins down the mucous in the lungs and helps in its expulsion. Boil two litres of water.
Place the pan of boiling water on a table and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to it. Lower your head over the pan to inhale the steam and vapors rising from it. Cover your head and and the pan with a big towel so that the vapors cannot escape outside. Inhale deeply till the fumes of the oil are exhausted. Repeat again in the night before going to bed.
Black pepper is a natural decongestant. It expels the mucous from the air sacs in the lungs and dries up the fluids in them. Boil a glass of water and add twelve crushed pepper corns to it.
Break five leaves of tulsi into small pieces and add to the boiling water. Boil for five minutes. Strain the mixture, add a teaspoon of honey and drink it hot. Drink two cups daily till the coughing is reduced and the phlegm vanishes completely.
Turmeric has a wide ranging healing power and is the best household spice for pneumonia. It is very efficient in eliminating coughs and mucous. It restores the lungs to their normal function thus bringing a long lasting relief. Take one heaped teaspoon of turmeric and mix it with a glass of hot milk. Drink this milk before going to bed every night.
