Though it does not affect the general health, it is an unsightly and embarrassing problem. It is more common in men than women. When it affects babies who are only some months old, it is called cradle crap and it goes away on its own. It mostly affects adults after thirty years of age.
Its main causes are fungus and a yeast called malassezia furfur which feeds on the sebum and multiplies quickly to spread if not treated timely. Extreme tension and anxiety, fatigue, oily skin, poor cleanliness, excessive secretion of sebum and some neurological disorders can also cause this condition.
