Sciatica is a shooting pain in the legs which occurs due to the inflammation or irritation of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve consists of nerve roots that come out of the spinal cord and extend to the lower back. It passes through the buttocks and further extends down the back of the legs to the ankles and feet.
Sciatica is the most common symptom of a herniated disc in the spine that starts pinching the sciatic nerve producing excruciating pain that begins in the buttock and moves down to the leg to the foot. It makes sitting or standing very difficult and painful. Sciatica can also occur due to narrowing of the spinal cord and other spinal conditions causing constant pain, tingling, numbness and difficulty in moving the leg and foot. It can be remedied by simple home cures.
