Strep throat is a common problem, especially amongst children and adolescents, and for most people antibiotic seems to be the only option for treating this condition. But there are many simple natural remedies available for curing strep throat.
To relieve yourself off the pain associated with strep throat, prepare a solution by mixing ¼ tsp of salt in half a cup of hot water. Let the salt dissolve and gargle with this solution. Repeat this process several times. Adding a pinch of cayenne peeper in the solution can be more effective for getting relieving from pain.
Gargling with Apple Cider Vinegar can help you get rid of strep throat. It is an amazing liquid and can bring relief from pain within 30 minutes. Dilute apple cider vinegar in a glass of hot water. For an adult person, mix 1-3 tsp in 8oz of water; for children it should be diluted in 16 oz of water. If the taste doesn’t bother you, you can sip it several times throughout the day.
Use any of these essential oils like geranium, thyme, lemon or hyssop and dilute in almond, olive or sunflower oil. Rub this mixture all over the throat and cover your throat with a warm towel. Repeat the process two or three times a day. Add few drops of essential oil in a bowl of boiling water.
Inhale the steam through the open mouth after covering your head with a towel. Repeat the process two or three times. This will bring relief very soon.
Cayenne pepper is considered to be a very effective remedy for strep throat. Take 3 tbsp of honey, 1 tsp of cayenne pepper and 15 cloves of garlic. Press the garlic cloves and combine all three ingredients and take 1 tsp of this mixture 3-4 times a day. Eat the mixture slowly so that it can coat the throat.
Don’t drink anything immediately after consuming the mixture. Honey and cayenne contain anti-oxidant properties that will boost the immune system and anti-bacterial property of garlic will help to fight the infection. Within 24 hours, you will start experiencing relief. Rubbing the paste on the back of your throat can also bring relief.
Drinking herbal tea of fennel and thyme can also bring relief from strep throat.
Massaging vapor rubs, castor oil or bum on the chest, neck, behind the ear and back before going to bed in circular motion can also bring relief by liquefying the mucus.
Avoid eating spicy, scratchy and oily foods. This will aggravate the pain in your throat. Eat soft, warm and liquid foods. Vegetable and chicken soups are good for you. Some soft foods you can eat include cottage cheese, eggs, bananas, watermelon, yogurt, and cooked and mashed vegetable.
Avoid sugar and dairy products. Bacteria feeds on sugar and dairy products encourage mucus formation. Alkaline broth is best for de-acidifying the system. Drink enough fluids, water and herbal teas.
