Natural Cure For Underactive Thyroid

Share

When the thyroid gland produces insufficient amounts of hormones that regulate the body’s functions it becomes underactive and is known as hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland is situated in the neck in front of the windpipe and it secretes hormones into the bloodstream. These hormones regulate the body’s growth and metabolism. Metabolism is how quickly the body burns energy and how quickly reactions take place. A lot of things are affected by it including your weight and sleep.

Hypothyroidism is caused by autoimmune diseases, insufficient amounts of iodine in the body and certain medicines which disable the normal functioning of the glands. It develops gradually with hardly any manifestations. The common symptoms are weight gain, general fatigue, low blood pressure, body pain, depression, slow reflexes, sore muscles and constipation. Certain measures at home can alleviate the symptoms and keep the condition under control.

Coconut milk is very nourishing as it contains many health giving nutrients. Coconut milk also has metabolism stimulating properties and builds and maintains the thyroid system. It is good to use fresh coconut milk as it contains no additives and preservatives. Grate and grind a coconut to a fine paste. Steep it in a cup of water for ten minutes. Squeeze and strain the pulp to extract the milk. Drink this milk every day.

Wild Oats

Wild oats is a grain that contains large amounts of iron, manganese and zinc. These minerals have restorative properties that stimulate the thyroid glands and enhance the production of the thyroid hormones.

Salt Water Fish

Salt water fish is an excellent source of iodine. Our body does not produce iodine naturally. Iodine is necessary to make thyroid hormones and lack of it in the diet causes the thyroid glands to become sluggish and produce insufficient amounts of hormones. Walnuts

Walnuts are full of wonderful medicinal properties and have been used since centuries for thyroid dysfunctions. They contain a wealth of nutrients which help the body to keep healthy and function properly.
