A dermatologist will decide whether you are affected by Pityriasis rosea just by observing the rash and asking you to undergo a blood test for the rash diagnosis. As such there is no cure for Pityriasis rosea, since its origins are not known, but there are certain methods based on which the itching caused due to the rash is stopped and the healing process quicker. There are few natural methods to cure Pityriasis Rosea. They are given below.
To stop itching caused due to the rash, mix equal parts of Echinacea and Valerian root with 2 parts of burdock root. Give 1/8th tsp of this mixture to children every 2 hours until the itching have considerably reduced. You can make this mixture into a paste also and apply it on the rash.
Avoid scratching the rash for further infection. Make a powder using 1 tsp each of Calendula flowers and Comfrey root, ½ tsp of Goldenseal with 1ounce of green clay. This powder acts as a disinfectant and prevents further infection. Apply this powder on the rash to stop itching. This will also help in causing dryness of the rash. You can also store this powder and use it when necessary.
This therapy involves exposure of skin to UV light at regular intervals. Light remedy has been used to cure various skin conditions like acne, eczema,, etc. The eyes should not be exposed to the radiation (rays from the UV light); therefore, it should be covered during this procedure.
The reaction of the skin to the UV light is monitored during the procedure to avoid any burns caused due to the radiation. You can do this in your house by exposing yourself to the direct sun for a few minutes. Be careful not to expose the skin too much to the sun since the rays from the sun are stronger when compared to artificial UV light.
Oatmeal Bath
To reduce itching and for quick healing, have a bath in warm water to which oatmeal powder is added. You can also soak the affected areas into the water for 20 minutes. You can do this procedure as often as possible to relieve itching.
Home Remedies
Reduce your physical activity once you have developed pityriasis rosea. Strenuous physical exercise will cause stretching of the lesions thus aggravating the condition.
Do not use soap and hot water while having a bath as this will cause dryness of the skin thus aggravating the condition, instead use Luke warm water and bath oil. You can use a moisturizer to reduce the itching.
Oral antihistamines will reduce the pain caused due to Pityriasis rosea. Antihistamines have very high anti-inflammatory properties, which reduce the rashes caused due to Pityriasis rosea.
It is advisable not to take oral antihistamines like Zyrtec, Claritin, Tavist, etc. without your doctor’s guidance.
