Many times seniors excuse themselves from exercising citing various reasons such as of their health conditions and the possibility of any injury while exercising. However exercise is the way to remain healthy, energetic and strong. Whatever may the age, one can exercise and exercise does not mean strenuous workouts in gym, but it only means an increase in the activity and movements of your daily life.
Exercise helps to delay the ageing process and aids you to lead an independent live. There are four different types of exercises and depending on your physical condition and mental strength you can adopt any of them.
Swimming and walking are considered as the two ideal endurance activities. They help to enhance the blood circulation and are very good cardio exercises.
When you grow older, you may lose your muscle mass and strengthening exercises helps you to prevent this lose.

But, balance exercises reduce the chances of any fall and help the seniors to walk confidently.
Exercises help to maintain the weight and if you are engaged in a more strenuous physical activity then it helps to burn more calories and fat. Thus, exercises even help to reduce the weight.
Being active, helps to increase the level of HDL or good cholesterol and lower the unwanted triglycerides. This will facilitate a smooth flow of blood throughout the body without any blocks, thus reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure.
Apart from this, exercises also helps to prevent stroke, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, arthritis, falls, depression, respiratory diseases, osteoarthritis, stress, anxiety and even certain types of cancers.
If you are not in a good mood or tried after a stressful day, exercise for thirty minutes, which will help to you to improve your mood. This is because exercises trigger certain brain chemicals, which makes you feel relaxed and happy. Moreover, exercise improves the appearance, confidence and self-esteem of the people and makes them feel happy.
Exercise improves the nutrient and oxygen supply to each and every cell in the body and keeps the cardiovascular system more efficient. Healthy lungs and heart provides you with more energy to complete your daily chores and keeps you motivated.
Insomnia is a common problem that most of the seniors faces. Regular exercise facilitates a quick and deep sleep. But care should be taken to avoid exercising closer to the bed time, as it makes you energized.
Hence, a daily walk is enough to make a difference in your life. Before going for any exercise program, consult your doctor and practice it with his consent.
