Ingrown hair is a very common occurrence and all women are aware of it. This irritating condition occurs when a razor is used to shave the hair. Some hair grow inwards or sideways inside the skin. This is majorly seen in parts that have coarser hair like the under arms and bikini lines in women. This condition can be painful and ugly.

Salt

Salt is well known for its exfoliating properties. For treating ingrown hair take about 2 cups of Epsom salt, add it to water in a bathtub, and immerse yourself in it.

If you have a stubborn ingrowth then you can wet your skin, apply Epsom salt on the area affected by ingrowth, gently massage in circular-motions, and then wash it. Doing this regularly helps in getting rid of ingrowth.

Sugar is another special ingredient that has shown positive changes in people, who suffer from this problem. Take a cup of cane sugar (white) and blend it with half a cup of jojoba oil or extra virgin olive oil, if it’s available or all three together.

Apply this mixture on the area of ingrowth. Slowly rub in with circular motions using your hand or a cloth. Once you finish, wash the area with water. You can store this mixture for about six months. Repeat this procedure as and when necessary and over a period of time you will notice that the ingrowth has vanished.

Vinegar Soak

Sometimes there are chances of ingrown hair being infected, so if you are worried about a bacterial infection, you would want to first treat the infection. In this condition, there cannot be a better home remedy than vinegar to help you. Soak the affected area in one part water and one part vinegar for about 10 minutes and then slowly scrub that part of the skin with a wet cloth.

Doing this regularly will get rid of the bacteria and also exfoliates and removes the dead cells or skin, which may be the reason for ingrowth. If the ingrowth is noticed in areas that are difficult to soak, just dip the cloth in this solution and hold the cloth on the area affected by ingrowth for a while. Vinegar is a great home remedy to ward off this condition.

Aloe Vera Treatment

As we all know, aloe vera is nature’s gift to us. It is known to have healing properties and is effective in treating several skin related issues. Its inherent anti-inflammatory powers are a great quality to treat bruises, cuts and issues related to ingrown hair.

If you do not have the plant with you, you can use an aloe vera gel, which is easily available in the market. If you happen to have the plant, just cut the leaf, squeeze out the gel with your finger, and apply that gel on the area, which is affected by ingrown hair. Aloe vera is known to be beneficial in the treatment of ingrown hair.

Baking Soda Scrub

A homemade baking soda scrub is a great remedy to remove dead cells and skin. Take a tsp of baking soda, oatmeal (ground) and water.

Blend these together to bring it to the consistency of a paste. Apply this mix generously on the area affected by ingrown hair and leave it for a few minutes. Then wash it and pat yourself dry.

Our kitchen cupboards contain various ingredients that can be blended together to make some great homemade concoction to treat various skin related problems. Take a cup of sugar, squeeze in half a lemon on it, and then add one and a half cups of cornstarch, a quarter cup of honey, and blend them together.

Slightly warm this mixture. Allow it cool for some time, once it is cool add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and mix it again. First, take a piece of cotton and dip it in cornstarch. Dab the cotton on the area, which has ingrown hair. Then gently apply the blend prepared over it. Leave it for twenty minutes and then wash it. Just one application of this concoction is enough to get relief. However, do not use this remedy often.

A warm compress is a universal solution to many health issues. Take a cloth and soak it in warm water. Hold the cloth against the affected area for some time. This works very well in the treatment of ingrown hair.

Repeat this many times to decrease the swelling and it also helps in softening the skin. It will also force the hair to come out from the hair follicle and grow normally. Irritation associated with ingrown hair will also be reduced with this warm compress.
