Most of the home remedies are made using natural ingredients and are therefore free from any side effects. The many over-the-counter treatments available for acne are laden with chemicals which can harm your skin. We have created for you a list of the best and most effective home remedies for treating acne.
Turmeric has been known for its many medicinal properties and in ancient India the spice was used extensively to cure various skin infections as well. When using turmeric to treat acne buy turmeric sticks from any food store and grind them into fine powder. Don’t use the powdered variety of turmeric available at general stores. You cannot be sure of the purity of the turmeric.
Take three tablespoons water, one teaspoon fresh lime juice and ½ teaspoon turmeric powder. Combine the three ingredients in a bowl to form a paste like consistency. Add some more water if the paste is too thick. Apply the paste all over your face and neck in an even thin layer and allow to dry. The lemon juice in the paste might sting a little especially if you have sensitive skin. Remove the paste using cold water.
You can do this treatment as many of number of times as you want in a day. The turmeric has anti-bacterial properties and will also reduce the inflammation caused by the acne. If you have painful acne then don’t use lemon juice in the paste. The juice of lemon is mainly for drawing out the excess oil from the skin. Repeated use of the treatment for two weeks will completely clear up your skin.
Orange peel has natural enzymes that fight the acne-causing bacteria. Orange, just like lemon, has high content of vitamin C which is helpful in drawing out excess oil from the pores of the skin. To prepare powder of orange peel you will have to dry the peels under the sun for a week’s time.
Take about 4 teaspoons of orange peel and mix it with water to form a thick paste. Apply the paste in thick layer over your face and neck taking care to cover the acne spots well. Let the paste air dry. Once the paste has dried completely wet your hands and start massaging the paste off your face using gentle circular movements.
Once the paste has been removed completely wash your face with cold water. The orange peel treatment for acne is also an excellent facial scrub from acne skin as it effectively gets rid of blackheads and other impurities present in the skin pores. Unclogging of skin pores effectively prevents and reduces acne.
Chickpea powder is being used since ancient times in many beauty rituals. The powder is known for the glowing skin it gives with regular use. However, chickpea is also effectively used in treating acne and acne scars. Washing the face with chickpea powder instead of with soap will prevent formation of acne and other skin blemishes.
Take a tablespoon of chickpea powder and add a pinch of turmeric in it. Mix the two well. Pour rosewater in the powdered mixture to form a paste. Apply the paste in an even layer on all the body parts affected with acne including the face. Keep for 15-20 minutes and then wash off with cold water.
Chickpea will draw out the impurities from the pores of the skin leaving them clean. Chickpea will also reduce the appearance of scars and other blemishes giving the skin an even and healthy tone. Use this treatment twice a day to see positive results in two weeks’ time.
Fuller’s earth, also known as Multani Mitti, is very commonly used for soothing irritated skin or sun burns. However, the minerals present in this clay also prevent the formation of acne. Take a tablespoon of fuller’s earth powder and add a pinch of turmeric to it.
Pour rosewater or distilled water in the mixture to form a paste. Apply the paste on your face and neck and allow to dry. The minerals in the fuller’s earth will effectively penetrate the pores of the skin and clean them by extracting the impurities present in them like dead skin cells, dirt, sebum etc. once the paste dries wash off using cold water. Use of fuller’s earth to treat acne is a very effective and popular home remedy.
While mint flavors your food it is also an excellent remedy for curing acne. The chemicals present in the mint leaves speed up the healing of acne. Use of mint to cure acne will ensure that there are no tell-tale acne scars left behind after the treatment gets over.
Take a handful of mint leaves and wash them properly in cold water. Using a mortar and pestle grind the leaves into a paste form. Apply the paste on your acne spots and leave for 10-15 minutes. The paste of mint leaves might burn initially but don’t remove the paste before the stipulated time. Once the paste dries wash off with cold water and immediately apply a witch-hazel based toner to soothe the skin. Use this treatment every day for a period of two weeks to get the desired results.
