Anorexia (nervosa) is an eating disorder such that the patient indulges in excessive dieting (or immoderate food restriction) for the fear of gaining weight. It was most commonly associated to women in the past, until lately when men have been found equally invaded by this ailment.

Lime, Orange and Apples

Another simple remedy for treating anorexia is to consume two to three oranges a day such that the appetite of the person gets stimulated. Apples, similarly, apart from injecting iron in the body, act as great appetisers. It will show extra benefits if taken along with a glass of milk and a spoonful of honey.

Lime can also be used but in a different process to the same effect: two teaspoons of lime juice are added to boiling water; two to three cloves are further put into this mixture; when it gets reasonably cool, it is consumed. This regimen needs to be followed daily for at least a week to have the lost appetite find its way back.

Ginger and Rock Salt

One of the best methods to cure anorexia involves ginger and rock salt. The method is this: a small piece of ginger is taken and its outer layer is peeled off; ginger is grinned and a few drops of lemon are added to it; a pinch of asafoetida and pepper is further added to form a paste; this paste is to be consumed in the morning on empty stomach for at least fifteen successive days. That’s it. The appetite of the person is sure to revive.

Garlic

4 ml of garlic juice is mixed with 2 ml of lime juice and 1 gram of rock salt is added to the mixture. This mixture is further kept in sunlight for three days.

If one spoon of this mixture is taken every day after meals, the appetite and the digestion of the person will greatly be stimulated. Garlic can also be taken with salads, soups or a variety of other preparations.

Sour Grapes

The juice from sour grapes is extracted and is utilised to knead bread dough. A pinch of rock salt might be added to the dough.

Then, chappatis are made out of this dough which when consumed at a stretch for fifteen days will enhance the appetite there by curing the person of anorexia.

Black Pepper and Honey

A fine paste is made with the help of black pepper corns and a teaspoon of honey. This is to be consumed everyday in the morning on empty stomach.

Buttermilk with small quantities of black pepper can also be consumed for the growth of the appetite. Likewise the juice of fresh pomegranate sprinkled with little amounts of black pepper will also serve a similar purpose.

The above mentioned natural remedies are sure to cure one off anorexia. They have not only been preached by ancient health ‘gurus’ for ages but have simultaneously stood all tests which today’s medical science has offered them.
