Mudras hold a special place in Yoga practise. Mudras help to enhance your physical and mental well being. You can practice mudras at any time anywhere. According to the science of yoga human body is made up of five elements i.e. water, earth, fire, wind and infinity. It is believed that all the five elements are present on your finger tips.

The thumb represents fire, the index or fore finger represents wind, the middle finger represents infinity, the ring finger represents earth and the little finger represents water. In Yoga various Mudras are performed to cure different types of physical and mental ailments.

Mudras for Good Health

Gyan or Dhayana Mudra

As the name suggests, Gyan or Dhayana Mudra enhances your mental ability. It improves concentration power and it removes negativity from the mind. It strengthens the nervous system. It helps you to sleep better and it reduces stress and tension. Gyan Mudra is beneficial for growing children as it improves retaining power and they are able to perform better in their studies.

To perform this Mudra, bring the tip of your index finger and thumb close together. Maintain a light pressure on the tips. Keep the other three fingers straight. Hold it for 10 minutes in the beginning and increase the time to 30 minutes every day. If you are unable to sit for a long time then divide it in two to three sessions during the day.

Vayu Mudra

Vayu Mudra helps to cure wind formation, arthritis, gout problem and sciatica and knee pain when done regularly for the recommended amount of time. Sit down in a comfortable position, fold your fore finger and bring it to touch the base of the thumb. Lightly press the pressure point and keep other fingers straight. Stay as mentioned above.

Apaan Mudra

Apaan Mudra helps to cure stomach ailments. It helps to flush out toxins from the body. Regular practice of Apaan Mudra helps to relieve constipation, flatulence, diabetes, dental problems and kidney problem. Sit in a comfortable position. Join the tip of your ring finger and middle finger with the tip of the thumb. Press lightly for recommended amount of time.

Prithvi Mudra

Prithvi Mudra helps to cure digestive problems; it removes physical weakness and helps to reduce weight. It boosts your energy level and fills the body with renewed energy. Sit cross legged; join the tip of your ring finger with the tip of thumb. Press lightly.

Praan Mudra

Praan Mudra invigorates the whole body with energy; it improves your vision and builds resistance power. It removes the deficiency of vitamins and minerals in the body and removes fatigue and lethargy. Join the tips of little finger and ring finger with the tip of your thumb. Keep the other two fingers straight. Put a light pressure.

Varun Mudra

Varun Mudra enhances your physical beauty by removing dryness from the skin; it makes the skin radiant and glowing. It cures acne problem and skin diseases. It balances water element in the body. Sit in cross legged position; join the tip of your little finger and tip of thumb together.
