Various Uses Of Essential Oils

An Essential oil is the concentrated liquid that is extracted from the leaf, flower, stem, bark or root of a plant. Essential oils are extracted by the process of distillation or solvent extraction.

They are also called Volatile oils or Ethereal oils. An essential oil contains the scent or aroma of the plant from which it is extracted. It need not be oily, though it may sound so. Most Essential oils are clear as water while some other like orange or lemongrass may be light yellow in colour.

Various Uses Of Essential Oils

Essential oils are mostly used in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps, essences or massage oils. They have to be mixed with base or carrier oil like coconut oil, sesame oil, almond oil or olive oil etc. in order to reduce their strength.

Essential oils can be applied to get relief from problems like headache, joint pains or they can be inhaled to treat cold and flu, chest infection or respiratory disorder.

Essential oils can be mixed with carrier oil and applied on the skin to reduce wrinkles and cellulite. They are also beneficial for treating acne problem, pigmentation and dandruff etc.

Each Essential oil has its own individual properties and is used accordingly for treating various kinds of ailments related to health and beauty.

A List Of Some Commonly Used Essential Oils Is Given Below

Chamomile Oil

Chamomile oil has anti allergic and anti depressant properties. It is used to treat asthma, skin allergy and insomnia. It helps to relieve tension and calms the nerves.

Cinnamon Oil

Cinnamon oil has anti septic properties. It is an energy booster and helps to rejuvenate the system.

Clove Oil

It is one of the strongest antiseptic essential oils. It is widely used in mouth washes, tooth pastes and other medicines to cure dental problems. Clove oil is also an effective insect repellent.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil has essential properties to correct digestive disorders. It removes flatulence, improves digestion and cures diarrhoea. Peppermint oil gives relief from headache when applied on the temples and massaging diluted peppermint oil on the gums help to cure gum diseases.

Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil is anti viral and antiseptic. It is used to cure respiratory disorders. Its inhalation helps to expel mucus. Eucalyptus oil is used in soaps and face wash to treat skin allergies.

Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is the most versatile among all essential oils. It is anti viral, anti depressant, antiseptic and anti asthmatic. It is used to heal cuts, burns and wounds. Its application on the temples is relaxing and nerve soothing. It is also used orally as a mouth cleanser.

Sandalwood Oil

Sandalwood oil is most popular in yoga therapy. Sandalwood incense sticks help to calm the mind and removes all the negativity from the system. Sandalwood oil is used is most beauty products.

Essential Oils are available in small vials in concentrated form. They generally have a shelf life and you must check the date of manufacturing before buying a pack of an essential oil. Essential oil is also sold blended with other oils and it should be used for the specific purpose that it is meant for.
