Dry skin is caused when your skin is not able to get enough moisture and so becomes brittle and dull. It also becomes rough and itchy and can further cause complications like dermatitis and eczema.

Dry skin is caused due to excessive washing, or using harsh soaps, or due to old age, or even due to genetic reasons. Air conditioners, swimming in chlorinated water, cool weather and even too much of weight loss can also cause dryness of skin.

It is very important that you get rid of your dry skin and for that, you can take the help of some vitamins. These vitamins can be consumed with different foods or as external supplements. They helping restoring the moisture of your skin and make it more lively and fresh.

Vitamins That Can Help In The Treatment Of Dry Skin

Vitamin A Or Retinol

Vitamin A is one of the most important vitamins for our body. It helps in proper growth and repair of your body cells, especially skin. It is also important for maintaining healthy night vision, strengthening immunity, and ensuring proper bone growth. Vitamin A blocks microbial infections, which can damage your skin and make it dry, by strengthening the external immune system of your body. It also prevents skin from drying due to other external factors.

Retinol helps in retaining the moisture content of your skin tissues and helps in keeping the skin soft and refreshed. It further prevents appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, sun burns, and dark patches on your skin, prevents dullness of the skin, and gives it a healthy glow. You will find vitamin A in green leafy vegetables, eggs, fruits, cheese, cantaloupe, oranges, carrots, low fat milk and milk products.

Vitamin B Complex

There are 8 vitamins in the vitamin B group, including thiamine, cyanocobolamin, riboflavin, folic acid, niacin, biotin, pantothenic acid, and pyridoxine. These vitamins are very important to maintain the health of your skin and prevent it from drying.

Some of the vitamins of B group are very helpful in improving proper circulation of blood, by helping in the production of RBCs. With improved blood circulation, skin cells are also able to get sufficient oxygen, moisture, and other minerals and so, they become healthier and dryness is reduced.

The Vitamins of Vitamin B complex also facilitate the absorption of minerals and other vitamins, and improve the immunity of your body. This improves overall health of your body, and also reduces the dryness of skin. You can find these vitamins in meat, eggs, whole grain cereals, beef liver, fish, milk, green vegetables, legumes, nuts, fresh fruits, brown rice and other dairy products.

Ascorbic Acid Or Vitamin C

Vitamin C strengthens the immune system of every person. It also helps in the production of collagen fiber, which in turn provides strength to skin tissues and makes them elastic and strong. Collagen also helps in the development of new blood vessels and their networks. This makes the skin look younger, soft, smooth and healthy.

Vitamin C also works as an antioxidant to neutralize and kill free radicals that are produced in our bodies and damage our cells. These free radicals cause tissue inflammation and dryness and by killing them, vitamin C helps in preventing these damages to the skin.

You can find this vitamin in oranges, lemons, green and red chili peppers, bell peppers, guavas, parsley, thyme, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kiwi fruit, strawberries, papayas, cauliflower, and green leafy vegetables.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is extremely crucial for the health of your skin. Its strong antioxidant properties help in relieving the body tissues of free radicals that can cause various damages to your skin cells. Vitamin E helps in removing scars and fighting off the symptoms of aging, like fine lines, crow’s feet and wrinkles, caused due to dryness.

It also protects the skin from harmful rays of sun, which are another prominent cause for dryness of skin. Due to these properties of this vitamin, it is frequently used in moisturizers, creams and other products made for dry skin care.

Vitamin E is essential for overall health of your skin and you can include it in your diet by consuming corn, asparagus, carrots, sunflower oil, oats, olive oil and wheat germ.

Dry skin is a sign that you skin is demanding attention. You should take care of your skin by eating a healthy and well balanced diet. You should also keep it moisturized and maintain proper sanitation, to prevent it from drying further.
