Lemon juice is known for its skin lightening property. It is used topically to fade the unsightly dark spots on the face. Due to various reasons melanin clumps together in different areas of the facial skin leading to dark spots. Aging, acne, excessive sun exposure and hormonal changes are common causes. Citric acid in lemon juice assists in exfoliating the skin. By breaking down the dead skin and stimulating regeneration of skin cells, it helps in lightening the dark spots. Furthermore, the antioxidant effect of vitamin C helps in inhibiting excess melanin production, thereby reducing appearance of dark spots.
Squeeze the juice of a lemon into a small bowl. Add a teaspoon of sugar and leave the bowl aside for five minutes. Mix a quarter cup yogurt into the lemon juice and sugar mixture. Gently rub the mixture on your face focusing on the dark spots. Leave it on the affected area for 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Lactic acid present in yogurt helps in exfoliation. Sugar granules mechanically slough off the dead skin. This is therefore an effective way to reduce dark spots naturally.
To remove the dark spots, you can use lemon juice with juice extracted from basil leaves. Basil juice soothes the skin and helps in lightening the dark spots. Its antiseptic property helps in reducing acne breakout, which is a common cause of dark spots. Mix lemon juice with equal amount of juice of basil leaves. Apply the mixture to the dark spots. Leave it on until its dries and then rinse off with water. Apply this juice mixture twice per day for better result.
Lemon juice and honey mixed together work as natural bleach. It helps in lightening the dark spots and adds a natural glow to the skin. Combine one tablespoon of lemon juice with equal amount of honey. Mix the ingredients until the honey dissolves in the juice. On clean damp face apply the lemon and honey mixture, focusing on the affected areas. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse.
Lactic acid present in milk powder gently exfoliates the skin. To fade dark spots, mix full cream milk powder with lemon juice and apply it to the affected areas. Mix a tablespoon of full cream milk powder with a teaspoon of lemon juice. Add few drops of water to make a smooth paste. Apply the paste to your face, focusing on the dark spots. Let the paste sit on the skin until it becomes dry. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Mix one tablespoon each of soy milk, lemon juice and aloe vera juice. With a clean cotton swab, apply the mixture to the dark spots twice a day. Soy milk helps in suppressing excess melanin production. Aloe vera is packed with nutrients that support healthy development of the skin cells and assists in repairing the damaged skin tissues.
Rose water is an excellent skin toner. It refreshes the skin and helps in evening out the skin tone. It can also help in lightening the dark spots. Mix lemon juice with equal amount of rose water. Apply the mixture to the dark spots. Leave it on for several minutes and then rinse.
